Congratulations to People United
June 27, 2011

On behalf of the of all at the Canterbury Innovation Centre warmest congratulations go to the People Unit team
(Unit 77) for their well deserved award.
At the first ever Culture Awards held at Augustine House in Canterbury on 16th June 2011, People United were awarded the Community Award for their year-long project in Herne Bay: We All Do Good Things. The Community Award, presented by Canterbury City Council, was for “an organisation, group or individual who delivered an excellent community project that has responded successfully to the needs of the district’s communities”.
They were delighted to be nominated but then to actually win the category was a real testament to the work of their small team. Over 6,000 Herne Bay residents actively participated in the project telling their stories of kindness and generosity at over 90 free creative workshops and events. The impact of the project has been the emergence of groups that have been inspired by the idea of helping others such as a Community Action Group of young people aged 11 – 18 years who want to make a positive difference in Herne Bay and of course the Giant Picnic is going to happen again but this time organised by Herne Bay in Bloom and other local partners.
